Also, he has been instrumental in India’s winning quest in the mid-2000s. Harbhajan was born to Sardar Sardev Singh Plaha and Avtar Kaur on July 3, 1980, in Jalandhar, Punjab. He wanted to become a batsman at first before switching his focus to bowling as a result of the unfortunate passing away of his first coach Charanjit Singh Bhullar. With his early brilliance with the ball, he made it to the Punjab U-16s followed by North-Zone U-16s. Soon, Harbhajan was a part of the U-19 Indian squad, playing in the U-19 Cricket World Cup 1998.

Harbhajan has been through major ups and downs in his career, including finger injury during the 2003 ICC World Cup and dropouts from the national team due to bad form. But Bhajji never gave up his passion and worked harder to make it to the top again. In fact, Harbhajan is among the very few bowlers in the world to record more than 400 wickets in test cricket. Besides wickets, Harbhajan also has a couple of centuries and nine half-centuries in the format. It is evident that he was a handy batsman who was capable of hitting big shots when required.

The 39-year old veteran hailing from Punjab is nothing less than a legend to many current cricketers as well.
