Growing up in Sarabha, a village in the Ludhiana district of Punjab, Gill developed a passion for football at a young age. Despite his family’s affinity for hockey, he gravitated towards football and regularly played with friends at a nearby ground. In 2007, Gill’s talent caught the attention of the football community, leading him to join the renowned Chandigarh Football Academy. He faced fierce competition during trials but secured his spot among approximately 100 aspiring players.

At the Chandigarh Football Academy, Gill honed his skills as a left-back before transitioning to become a center-back. In 2010, he achieved his first major championship victory, winning the under-14 competition of the Subroto Cup. In 2012, Gill decided to take his football career further by joining the All India Football Federation’s Elite Academy in Navi Mumbai. This move opened doors to various competitions, including the I-League U19, and allowed Gill to represent the national under-17 and under-20 sides. His notable performance at the Nike All Asia Camp caught the attention of European clubs, such as Barcelona and Inter Milan.
