The Ministry of Civil Aviation released a draft for the National Air sports Policy (NASP 2022) on Saturday. This will strengthen air sports in India. India has a large geographical expanse, fair weather, and diverse topography which benefits air sports, as stated by the Ministry’s spokesperson. After one year of waiting, the policy has finally passed. This policy aims to make India one of the top nations in air sports by 2030.-- Advertisement --
The draft for the National Aerosports policy covers all the major air sports. Skydiving, air-racing, ballooning, aerobatics, paragliding, aeromodelling, paramotoring, hang gliding, vintage aircraft, comes under it.

The draft which is now in the public domain says- “Air sports by their very nature involve a higher level of risk than flying a regular aircraft. NASP 2022 places a strong focus on ensuring international best practices in safety”.
“During peak winters, the level of air sports reduces in Europe and North America and the air sports aficionados migrate to milder climates. ASFI and the air sports associations will work towards developing a hassle-free process to enable their movement to India. This will enable Indian air sports enthusiasts to learn from the experience of the visiting professionals, get exposed to global best practices, and create opportunities to host global competitions in India.” The Draft further states.-- Advertisement --
This will attract all the air sports professionals from across the world to come and make the nation rich in this sport. It will help to boost the sports tourism of the country.
Air sports association- National air sports policy
The air sports association will welcome all the entities who provide air sports in India. They will register themselves as members of the association. These entities will also have to register their major equipment which they use for the activity.-- Advertisement --
The Director-General of the Civil Aviation published an airspace map of India on the aviation regulator Digital sky platform. It shows all the red, yellow, and green zone. It will help people to easily rely on the map for guidance.
For operations in Green zone regions up to a total weight of 500 kg does not require any permission. The regions of the Red and Yellow zone will require permission from the central government and the Air Traffic Control Authority.-- Advertisement --
