Para shooter Manish Narwal won a gold medal for Indian on Tuesday at Al Ain (UAE). He was competing in the P4 mixed 50 m pistol SH1 event. Manish won the event with a new world record in the para category. This was India’s second gold medal in the ongoing shooting W.C. In the 2019 World Championship, Narwhal won the bronze medal. This year, he had tough competitors to overcome- like Paralympic and world champions, including Iranian Sareh Javanmardi and Ukraine’s Oleksii Denusiuk. By the end of the series, Narwal ended with 229.1 points. It was enough to set a new world record. He broke the previous world record by Serbia’s Rastko Jokic (228).

The 19-year-old Narwal scored 5.7 points better than Javanmardi. Javanmardi’s score was 223.4 points at the end of the series. Another Indian, Singhraj, who is also a Worlds medallist, won the bronze medal. His total stood at 201.7 points.-- Advertisement --
As per the rules of SH1 events the athletes are allowed to support their firearms without any assistance.
“The way Manish performed today was his natural game, it was expected from him. In fact, I was expecting a much better score from him today. Such performance and the results followed will definitely boost the confidence of the entire team for the Tokyo Paralympic Games,” national chief coach JP Nautiyal said.-- Advertisement --
After 6 days of the tournament, Ukraine is leading the medal tally with four gold, four silver, and one bronze. With three gold and silver, team U.A.E is at 2nd position. India stood in third place with two gold, one silver, and a bronze medal. A total of 120 athletes from 24 nations are participating in the para shooting W.C this year.
