Indian tennis player Sumit Nagal secured a spot in the main draw of the BNP Paribas Indian Wells Masters after the withdrawal of Rafael Nadal from the tournament on Wednesday. Originally set to mark his return to official competition after a two-month hiatus, Nadal’s absence shifted the focus to Nagal. Initially slated to face Milos Raonic in the first round on Thursday night, Nagal, who lost in the qualifying rounds, stepped into the vacant spot in the bracket. Now, fans must await information on when they will have the next opportunity to witness Nadal in action.

Despite losing in the final qualifying round against South Korea’s Seong-Chan Hong, Nagal entered the main draw as the ‘lucky loser.’ The intense match against Hong ended with a score of 6-2, 2-6, 6-7 (4-7), despite Nagal taking an early lead in the first set. In his earlier appearance at the Indian Wells Masters on Monday, Nagal convincingly defeated American wildcard Stefan Dostanic in straight sets.
