FIH Hockey5s Women’s World Cup: India Enters Final With 6-3 Outshining South Africa

The Hockey Team of India Women secured an exhilarating 6-3 victory over South Africa, propelling them into the final of the FIH Hockey5s Women’s World Cup. The goals for India in the semifinal on Friday night were scored by Akshata Abaso Dhekale (7th minute), Mariana Kujur (11th), Mumtaz Khan (21st), Rutuja Dadaso Pisal (23rd), Jyoti Chhatri (25th), and Ajima Kujur (26th). On the opposing side, Teshawn De La Rey (5th), captain Toni Marks (8th), and Dirkie Chamberlain (29th) found the mark for South Africa.

India Reaches Final of FIH Hockey5s Women’s World Cup

South Africa initiated the opening half with a defensive strategy, relying on counterattacks to pose a threat to the Indian goal. The initial opportunity of the game presented itself to South Africa. However, the Indian goalkeeper, Rajani Etimarpu, remained alert and guarded the goal effectively.

With just five minutes remaining in the match, Jyoti, feeling the heat, successfully scored a goal, surpassing South Africa’s goalkeeper Cochrane. Ajmina extended India’s lead to 6-2 with a precise shot from a short distance, while Chamberlain managed to score a consolation goal for South Africa just a minute before the final whistle. India will compete against the Netherlands in the upcoming final on Sunday.
