Team India played out a goalless draw against England and still has hopes high as they remain in contention for a direct quarterfinal berth in the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup on Sunday. Both sides failed to score in an evenly contested Pool D match. Both teams got ample chances to score a goal at the jam-packed Birsa Munda Stadium.

In that match, England got 8 penalty corners and India got four. England and India are on the same page as both teams have four points each from two matches. India and England will play their next match on January 19 when India face Wales while England takes on Spain. India has to beat Wales by a handful of goals to have a better chance of avoiding the crossover mess.

In the match between England and India, it was England who dominated in the first quarter as they got five penalty corners. However, India defended the Penalty corners quite well as Manpreet Singh was the first to rush out and close down the angle. India got its first penalty corner with the efforts of Mandeep Singh.
