South Korean star footballer Son Heung Min was spotted wearing a face mask in training and for the first group stage match against Uruguay in the FIFA World Cup 2022. Son’s unusual look has garnered the attention of fans from all over the world. People are wondering why the South Korean skipper is wearing the peculiar face mask covering the area around his eyes.
During a UEFA Champions League game between Tottenham Hotspur and Marseille earlier this month, Son met with a dreadful injury. Son collided with Marseille player Chancel Mbemba. The star footballer suffered multiple fractures on his left eye socket. Son even had to undergo surgery for this eye injury.
The ace footballer had left a heart-warming message for his fans after the success of the surgery. He wrote,
“Hi everyone. I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you all for the messages of support I have received over the last week. I have read so many of them and truly truly appreciate you all. In a tough time, I received a lot of strength from you! Playing for your country at the World Cup is the dream of so many children growing up, just as it was one of mine too. I won’t miss this for the world. I can’t wait to represent our beautiful country, see you soon. Sonny.“
Earlier, Son’s World Cup participation was uncertain, but he was spotted in the training as well as their first match of the tournament. Son is wearing a face mask as protective gear, to shield the eye area from hurting further.
Son Heung Min’s team will clash next in their FIFA campaign against Ghana on Monday, November 28.
