On Saturday, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) announced Bhubaneswar and Guwahati as the chosen host cities for India’s initial two home matches in the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup 2027 Preliminary Joint Qualification Round 2. In the Asian qualifiers, India finds itself placed in Group A, sharing the group with Qatar, Kuwait, and the winners of the Preliminary Joint Qualification Round 1 clash between Afghanistan and Mongolia.
The Blue Tigers are set to kick off their upcoming series of matches with an away game in Kuwait on November 16. They will then welcome the reigning AFC Asian Cup champions, Qatar, to the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on November 21. In the following year, India is scheduled to engage in consecutive matches against either Afghanistan or Mongolia. Then followed by a home fixture at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Guwahati on March 26.
The Secretary General of AIFF congratulated to the Football Associations of Odisha and Assam for securing the hosting rights for the mentioned matches. They also extended their best wishes for the successful organization of these matches at a top-tier standard, thanks to the collaboration with the respective state governments.
The selection of hosts for India’s home leg against Kuwait on June 6 will be announced later.
