Fastest Test Fifty by an Indian

India has dominated the Test format for many years now, but surprisingly, no one from India could make the list. In fact, there is no Indians in the top ten half-century scorers in the world. The first fastest test 50 from an Indian bat came from Kapil Dev in 30 balls way back in 1982 in a series against Pakistan.

He came in to bat when India had lost four wickets early on in the first innings. His fifty was particularly very important because the wicket was a bowling friendly wicket. He eventually got 73 runs in 53 balls. In the second innings, he even scored a century, but India could not survive, and Pakistan won the match by an innings and 86 runs.

Known for his attacking game, Shahid Afridi has done wonders for Pakistan with the bat in the limited-overs format, but his contribution in the red-ball game is not the best. While he played 398 ODI matches and 99 T20 matches, he has only played a total of 27 Test matches. He has an average of 37 in all those matches. However, he has a few memorable games including the one against India at Bangalore in 2005.

After gaining a lead in the first innings, Pakistan was in a good position to win the match. They need quick runs in the next innings to set a good total to defend. All the batsmen were playing with high strike rates, but Afridi was unstoppable. He played a great knock and ended up scoring one of the fastest half-centuries in test cricket. He had a strike rate of over 170 in the end.

Fastest 50 in Test Cricket: Shane Shillingford

Playing for West Indies, Shane Shillingford only represented the team in test cricket. He never played too many games or even had the best of stats, but he does hold the record for the fourth-fastest half-century in the world and the fastest for West Indies.

This innings against New Zealand in 2014, at the time, was the second-fastest 50 of all times, just 1 ball short of Jacques Kallis’ world record. His innings included 5 sixes and 3 boundaries, but the Windies could still not save the match.

Fastest 50 in Test Cricket: Jacques Kallis

The most elegant players from South Africa to have ever graced the sport of cricket will have the name of Jacques Kallis at the top. A genuine all-rounder who had and still has some of the best stats in the world, including his fastest 50 in the test, which at the time was the fastest in the world.

In the first test against Zimbabwe in 2005, Kallis had a great spell with the ball in the first innings. South Africa was now looking to capitalize on this great start with the bat as well. After a good opening partnership, and two wickets in quick succession, Kallis walked in to bat and did not waste any time. He hit the fourth ball that he faced for a six, then he hit the next ball for a six too, and then he cleared the boundary on his sixth ball as well. He went on to score the fastest 50 in test and lost his wicket on the very next ball he faced.

The attacking player that David Warner is, he has always played with all the freedom, irrespective of the format. He is the kind of player who can never be contained, but more often than not, he does the job well for his team. One such performance came in 2017 in the 3rd Test against Pakistan.

After scoring a quick century in the first innings, Warner wanted to continue his form and take Australia’s lead even higher. He started his second innings with a four on the very first ball, and he never stopped for the next 22 balls. He covered the entire park with his shots before he was bowled by Wahab Riaz’s brilliant delivery. But, by then, the damage was done, and Australia took away the game from Pakistan.

Misbah, the brilliant Pakistani captain has given so many memorable performances over the years including his test century at Lord’s in London. And of course, who can ever forget the pushup celebration. His captaincy and his batting skills are still some of the best by any Pakistani player.

The fastest test half-century came from his bat against Australia in Abu Dhabi during the 2nd in 2014. Pakistan had a big lead at the end of the first innings. Courtesy, Misbah-ul-Haq’s century. They now wanted to quickly get some more runs on the board to have a good total to defend in the final innings. Misbah took the responsibility and started scoring at a quick rate. He got to his fifty in just 21 balls, but that was not the end! He went on to score twin centuries in the match. This record still has not been broken, but with the modernization of the game, you never know.
