Number 10 on the list of fastest 50 in T20 cricket is South Africa’s Farhaan Behardien for his quickfire 55 in just 15 balls. Farhaan smashed four fours and five sixes at a strike rate of 366.66. This match was reduced to 5 overs due to rain and Behardien’s team Titans won the game by 6 runs (D/L Method).

9Colin Munro, New Zealand vs Sri Lanka, Auckland, 2016 | 14 balls

Next is New Zealand’s Colin Munro for his brilliant 51 against Sri Lanka which came in just 14 balls. Munro came into bat when his side needed 54 runs in 13 overs. However, he himself added 51 on the board as New Zealand chased down Sri Lanka’s target of 143 with 10 overs to spare. This is the 2nd fastest T20 international fifty till date.

Kieron Pollard played a great innings of 56 in just 15 balls in the Caribbean T20 league. During the second last over of the innings, Pollard smashed one of the bowlers of Leeward Islands’ team for five sixes! He smashed eight sixes at a strike rate of 373.33!

7Kieran Noema-Barnett, Central Districts vs Otago, Invercargill, 2010 | 14 Balls

Next on the list is New Zealand’s Kieran Noema-Barnett. Barnett scored the then fastest 50 in New Zealand T20 cricket history against Otago in New Zealand’s domestic T20 league. He struck 3 fours and 6 sixes in this innings to reach to his milestone in just 14 balls.

6Gerard Brophy, Yorkshire vs Derbyshire, Derby, 2006 | 14 balls

On number 6 is South African first-class wicket-keeper Gerard Brophy. Brophy scored an explosive 57 off 18 deliveries for Yorkshire against Derbyshire. Brophy’s innings included 13 fours and not a single six, and still, he was able to score, at a strike rate of 316.66!

Next on the list is Pakistan’s explosive opener, Imran Nazir. Right in the initial days after the introduction of T20 cricket, Imran Nazir sent a statement across Pakistan that this format was the most suited for a batsman of his calibre. Imran went on to score 54 off just 19 balls and reached the milestone in only 14 balls. Nazir continued with the same attitude and aggression in the rest of his career.

In a group stage match against Hampshire in England’s Friends Provident T20 Cup, Somerset’s skipper and former English opener Marcus Trescothick scored an unbelievable innings of 78 off just 27 balls. He reached to his 50 in just 13 balls and smashed 7 fours and 7 sixes in this knock and led his team to a famous victory.

Number 3 on the countdown is Afghanistan’s Hazratullah Zazai’s 62 in just 17 balls. Zazai batted at an impeccable strike rate of 364.71 in this match of the Afghanistan Premier League. With this innings, Zazai created history by smashing 6 sixes in an over. He smashed Balkh Legends’ Abdullah Mazari for 6 sixes. With this, he became the 5th member on the list of batsmen with this feat in their career in any form of cricket.

Number 2 on the list of fastest 50 in T20 cricket is the Boss Chris Gayle. The West Indian struck a lightning-fast 56 off just 17 balls against Adelaide Strikers. This knock came in the league stage of Big Bash League’s 2016 edition. The Renegades needed to chase down Adelaide Strikers’ target of 171 in just 16 overs to qualify for the knockout stage. Gayle provided them with a base by reaching to his 50 in just 12 balls. However, the rest of the team couldn’t capitalise over the start and lost the game by 27 runs.

The record for the fastest 50 in T20 cricket is held by Yuvraj Singh. One of the most loved heroes of the game, Singh took just 12 balls to reach the milestone in the historic match against England in the inaugural edition of ICC T20 World Cup in 2007. Yuvraj smashed the very famous 6 sixes in an over off Stuart Broad and created history by becoming the first cricketer to do so in T20 cricket.
