This was Sharma’s 4th century in the ongoing World Cup, a record that he now shares with Sri Lanka’s maestro Kumar Sangakkara. Moreover, he also overtook David Warner as this tournament’s highest run-getter. Unsurprisingly, the 32-year-old was adjudged as the Man of the Match.

However, apart from him, there were one more award that was announced after the game. Not by the ICC but by the Twitterati – The Fan of the Match!

It all happened when during India’s innings, a mindful cameraman captured a picture of an elderly Indian fan blowing a horn with enthusiasm. The visuals left the commentators amazed, with Harsha Bhogle requesting the broadcasting team to again capture her. And the same zeal was there.

Naturally, the Twitterati went gaga over Patel’s spirit and enthusiasm for the game. The lady had an exclusive interview with the game’s official broadcaster Star Sports after the match. Moreover, Indian skipper Virat Kohli too seeked her blessings after the win over Bangladesh.

“I love this Indian team and all the players are like my kids,” Patel said in an interview.

“When Kapil paaji won the World Cup in 1983, I was there as well. Whenever Indian cricketers come over (to England) to play, I pray for them. I am a big believer in Lord Ganesh and I have full faith that India will win. I bless the players, I hope they take care, do well and give us a chance to win,” she told ANI.

Twitter was flooded with heart-warming tweets about the new “Fan of the Match”. While while stunned fans saluted Charulata Patel’s immense love for the game, others like business tycoon Anand Mahindra offered sponsorship to her.
