The ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar has increased the export of eggs from Tamil Nadu by almost two-fold. The eggs which are being exported from Namakkal in Tamil Nadu to Qatar have also affected the prices of eggs globally.

Tamil Nadu’s poultry farms are majorly located around the Namakkal district. The district has 700 of the 1,100 poultry farms in Tamil Nadu, which produce 60 million eggs per day.
There has been a global rise in the prices of eggs as the FIFA World Cup continues amid the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.
These eggs from the Namakkal district are also exported to Kerala, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and West Bengal.
Tamil Nadu Poultry Farmers’ Association president K Singaraj, mentioned that the egg prices in Turkey have surged and therefore Namakkal was getting the majority of the orders from West Asian countries. Not to forget, Turkey is the main supplier of eggs to the Gulf Countries.
