To ensure a safe and enjoyable dive, it’s crucial to have the right scuba diving equipment. We will explore the essential gear every diver should have for the underwater adventures.

Scuba Tank

Your Underwater Lifeline A scuba tank, also known as a diving cylinder, is a vital piece of equipment that stores compressed air or specialized gas mixtures for breathing underwater. These tanks, typically made of steel or aluminum, have a pressure rating ranging from 2000 to 3500 psi.

Breathe Easy The regulator is responsible for delivering the compressed air from your scuba tank to your mouthpiece. It converts the high-pressure air into ambient pressure, allowing you to breathe comfortably underwater. A typical regulator consists of two parts: the first stage, which connects to the tank, and the second stage, which you place in your mouth.

Diving Mask

See the Underwater Beauty A well-fitting diving mask is essential for clear vision underwater. It should fit snugly, be comfortable to wear, and provide an unobstructed view. To find the perfect fit, try the gentle suction test by holding the mask lightly against your face and breathing in slightly through your nose.

Wetsuit or Drysuit

Stay Comfortable in the Water A properly fitting wetsuit or drysuit is crucial for maintaining body temperature and protecting yourself from cuts, scrapes, and jellyfish stings. Wetsuits are suitable for warmer waters, while drysuits provide better insulation in colder environments. Both should fit snugly without restricting movement.

Team Events

Obstacle Course

The Obstacle Course is a timed event where a buddy pair swims a distance of 100 m in a course spanning 2 swimming pool lanes. The course involves various tasks, including swimming through a 2 m long tunnel made of 1 m diameter hoops suspended in mid-water. At the 12 m mark, they share an alternative air source until the 42 m mark, where the recipient diver resumes breathing from their own cylinder.

They remove and place their diving masks in a basket at the 45 m mark, retrieve and refit them at the 50 m mark. At the 65 m marker, they swim through a 5 m tunnel without their scuba sets. After exiting, they refit their scuba sets, collect an object at the 73 m mark, and ascend together. Finally, they swim to the 100 m mark on the surface while towing the object. Competitors’ rankings are determined by their completion time, with time penalties for mistakes such as using hands during underwater swimming or touching the obstacles.

Briefing is an underwater team event where a group of 4 divers conducts a time-based search and information gathering task. Prior to entering the pool, the Team Captain receives instructions regarding the search order and information to be recorded from 16 ‘signal-pliers’ positioned across the pool’s bottom. The divers enter from different corners, meet in the middle, and receive the task briefing from the Team Captain. Each team member then searches a designated quadrant, recording information in personal notebooks. After collecting all the data, the team reconvenes in the middle to review and verify the results. Once satisfied, the team surfaces together. Rankings are based on a scoring system that evaluates precision and task completion time.
