East Bengal FC has secured the services of seasoned Spanish midfielder Victor Vazquez for the remaining duration of the 2023-24 Indian Super League (ISL) season, as officially revealed by the club on Wednesday. Hailing from the renowned La Masia Academy of FC Barcelona, Vazquez, who once shared the field with Lionel Messi and received coaching from Pep Guardiola, brings a wealth of experience to the Indian football scene. In addition to his stint with Barcelona, Vazquez has also showcased his skills while playing for Club Brugge, Toronto FC, and Los Angeles Galaxy in the past.
Vazquez ascended through the youth system at Barcelona, becoming a notable member of the renowned La Masia generation alongside Messi, Fabregas, and Pique. Guardiola elevated him to Barcelona’s senior squad in 2008, where he marked his debut goal during the 2010-11 UEFA Champions League group stage against FC Rubin Kazan.

In April 2011, Vazquez became a member of the Belgian Pro League team Club Brugge. Throughout his tenure with Club Brugge, spanning 173 official matches, Vazquez notched 25 goals and contributed 50 assists. His impactful performance played a pivotal role in securing the team’s victory in the Belgian Cup (2014-15) and the Belgian Pro League title (2015-16). Additionally, he played a key role in guiding Club Brugge to the quarterfinals of the 2014-15 UEFA Europa League. Vazquez’s outstanding contributions earned him recognition, as he was honored with the title of Belgian Professional Footballer of the Year.
