The groups for the 132nd Durand Cup football tournament, scheduled to take place from August 3rd to September 3rd, 2023, have been announced. The tournament will be held in Kolkata, Guwahati, and Kokrajhar.
The participating teams have been distributed among six groups, each consisting of four teams. Among these groups, three (A, B, and C) will compete in Kolkata, which is the only host city with multiple venues.
The grand finale of the tournament will also take place in Kolkata at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (VYBK) on September 3, 2023. The majority of Group D and Group E matches, except for two, will be held at Guwahati’s Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium. Kokrajhar’s SAI Center Ground, the newest venue in the host city lineup, will host a total of nine matches, including one of the four quarter-final games.
The knockout stage will consist of the six group winners and the two best second-placed teams. In the previous edition, Bengaluru FC, captained by the Indian star Sunil Chhetri, secured their first-ever Durand Cup title by defeating Mumbai City FC 2-1 in the final held at the VYBK (Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan).
The defending champions, Bengaluru FC, have been grouped with two well-known teams from Kerala, namely Kerala Blasters and the 2019 champions Gokulam Kerala. Group C matches will be held in Kolkata, and the Indian Air Force team will also be part of this group.
