Dream 11 Is IPL’s Official Fantasy Sports Partner: What To Expect?

The largest daily fantasy sports site in India, Dream 11, is now the official partner of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The deal comes as Dream11 joined forces with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to seal the exclusive partnership, which will be intact for a minimum of four years, at which time the relationship could be renegotiated.

 

 

The deal also means that the official fantasy game of the IPL will also be powered by the e-sports gaming firm. Dream 11 who have expanded manifolds in the last couple of years will help increase the popularity of the game amongst cricket fans online.

According to a media reports, The Committee of Administrators (CoA) of the BCCI said that this move is an attempt by the organisers to engage with the fans on the digital platform and also called Dream 11 the biggest fantasy sports platform in India.

Apart from launching a multi-media advertising campaign, Dream 11 will also provide a platform for fans to create their Fantasy Cricket teams during the season. There will also be on-ground activations at various centres during the IPL matches.

A few media reports have also quoted Harsh Jain, Chief Executive and co-founder of Dream11. Responding to the announcement, he said that Dream 11 will deeply integrate with the IPL which had over 1.4 billion TV impressions and 200 million online viewers in 2018.

This will also help Dream 11 to achieve their goal of growing their customer base from 51 million users to 100 million users in 2019.

Over five crore users play fantasy cricket, football, hockey, kabaddi and basketball on Dream 11. Dream 11 has previously tied up with other international competitions like the ICC Women’s World Cup, Big Bash League, Indian Super League and National Basketball Association (NBA).

The last few years have seen exponential growth in the fantasy sports industry with many players entering the market. In a 2018 IFSG-AC Nielsen survey report, India has almost 300 million sports fans who consume cricket online. Fantasy Cricket is also the most widely played online fantasy sports game, the survey reported.

The site also announced recently that it now has over 50 million registered users. It is expected to soon receive a large investment of about $100 million, which will come from Alternative Asset Management firm Steadview Capital out of the UK. That investment would provide a valuation in secondary capital of between $1.3 and $1.5 billion.
