Payal Kanodia from Haryana won a silver medal in the Kettlebell lifting World Championship in Budapest, Hungary. The Championship was organized by the International Union of Kettlebell Lifting (IUKL) between October 22 to 24.
Payal won the silver medal in the 68 kg category for 35-39 years old. Payal’s Coach Anshu Taravath too won a silver medal in the championship for the 58 kg category.
The Champions Words…
Payal Kanodia has said that for her, kettlebell lifting was an accidental discovery. She had always been a fitness enthusiast and randomly found Anshu Taravath’s Skype lessons and started taking the classes.
The 35-year-old believes that her family’s enthusiasm after she won the first few titles kept her motivated to go on and train more. Paula has also revealed that she did not expect to win any medal in the championship, her main goal was to merely represent India in such tournaments.
She had started kettlebell lifting seriously only one and a half years ago in March 2020, when the first COVID-19 lockdown took place. Payal Kanodia originally belongs to Tauru in Haryana but has been living in Delhi now for more than a decade.
Payal had earlier participated in a state-level championship but had not won anything there. She had however then won a gold medal in a national-level championship. That along with the motivation from her coach and family made her take the sport even seriously and train harder.
She is also the ambassador of the Government of India’s Fit India programme. Payal Kanodia is a doctor by qualification but had decided to join her family’s real estate business instead.
Payal had won a silver medal in the championship despite there being more than 453 athletes in the championship. Many of whom had been in the sport fir decades now, unlike her who had been in the sport only for one and a half years.
