ISSF Shooting World Cup 2021: Golden Shot For Divyansh Singh Panwar and Elavenil Valarivan

The Indian duo- Divyansh Singh Panwar (18) and Elavenil Valarivan (21) won the gold medal at the ISSF Shooting World Cup 2021, in the 10 m mixed air rifle event on Monday. The Indians shot a combined total of 16 in the gold medal match. They beat Hungarian world number one Istvan Peni and Eszter Denes. The Hungarian team scored 10.

The Indian pair showed some excellent shooting skills to comfortably grab the gold medal. This is India’s fourth gold in the ISSF Shooting World Cup 2021. 

In the gold medal match, Divyansh and Elavenil shot 10.4 and 10.7 respectively to begin their journey. They mostly shot mid or high 10 as the gold medal match entered its last leg. Their Hungarian opponents managed 10.1 each in their 1st shot. It was followed by a 10.6 and 10.5 by the Hungarian pair.

Earlier, in the 2nd qualification, Elavenil and Divyansh stood first by shooting 211.2 and 210.1 respectively. The team’s aggregate was 421.3. Whereas, Peni and Denes together shot a total of 419.2 in the qualification match.

This was Divyansh’s 2nd medal in the ongoing ISSF World Cup after his individual bronze on the 1st day of the tournament. Elavenil failed to win in the finals of her individual event. Currently, Divyansh Singh Panwar is world number 1 in 10 m air rifle rankings.

The Final Shot

The Indians shot a total of 10.4 (each) in the final shot. Whereas the Hungarian pair got 10.7 and 9.9 in the final shot. Such excellent performance by Divyansh Singh Panwar and Elavenil Valarivan helped them grab the gold medal at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range, New Delhi.

Other Medal Winners

Mary Carolynn Tucker and Lucas Kozeniesky, of the Team USA, grabbed the bronze medal. The team USA won against the team of Poland- Aneta Stankiewicz and Tomasz Bartnik.

Another Indian pair at the ISSF, Anjum Moudgil, and Arjun Babuta could not make it into the finals. The pair finished fifth in the qualification round. They scored 418.1.

Team India At ISSF 2021

  • Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Deepak Kumar, and Pankaj Kumar combined to win the silver medal in the men’s team air rifle event. The Indians shot a total of 14 in the final round. The winning team- Lucas Kozeniesky, William Shaner, and Timothy Sherry of the USA shot a total of 16.

  • In the women’s air rifle event, the Indian team of Nisha Kanwar, Shriyanka Shadangi, and Apurvi Chandela finished 4th. Their score was 623.7.
