Diamond League 2023: Neeraj Chopra Dominates with 88.67m Throw to Kickstart Season

Indian Javelin sensation and Tokyo Olympics Gold medallist Neeraj Chopra starts his season with victory at the Doha Diamond League (DL) 2023 on Friday night. With a fabulous first throw of 88.67m, Neeraj Chopra was almost near his personal best while dominating the entire competition.

The other top contenders, Jakub Vadlejch and Anderson Peters and Chopra himself coundn’t beat his first throw. The second best throw of the night was by Vadlejch (88.63m), almost near Chopra’s throw.

The Golden boy’s first throw became his winning throw as he dominated the entire competition as his next throws were 86.04m, 85.47m a foul throw, 84.37m and 86.52m. Meanwhile, Jakub Vadlejch (CZE) finished second with a throw of 88.63m, almost nearing Neeraj Chopra and Anderson Peters (GRE) finished third with a throw of 85.88m.

Chopra, at the pre-competition press conference ahead of Friday’s event, said,

“The most important thing is that Doha is famous for 90m throws and hopefully, tomorrow will be a great result for all.”

He added,

“It always helps to have good competitors. It is my first competition of the season and Yukub has already thrown 88m in Potchefstroom (South Africa) so I think tomorrow will be a great competition.”

Meanwhile, India’s Eldhose Paul finished 10th in the 11-man field in men’s triple jump with a best attempt of 15.84m.
