Ace footballer Cristiano Ronaldo was fined £50000, and banned for two matches for an old phone-hitting incident. Ronaldo apparently hit a mobile phone out of a teenage fan’s hand at Everton.
The incident dates back to April 9 when Ronaldo was involved in an outburst with a teenage boy. The boy was reportedly an Everton fan. The phone-hitting incident took place after the Man U 1-0 loss to Everton in the Premier League at Goodison Park.
A statement from English football’s governing body read
“Cristiano Ronaldo has been suspended for two matches, fined £50,000, and warned as to his future conduct for a breach of FA rule E3. The forward admitted that his conduct after the final whistle of the Premier League game between Manchester United FC and Everton FC on Saturday, 9 April 2022, was improper. An independent regulatory commission found that his conduct was both improper and violent during a subsequent hearing and imposed these sanctions.”
He was also cautioned by Merseyside Police, while the Football Association also charged Portugal forward with improper conduct. Ronaldo apologized to the young fan immediately after the incident. Further, an independent panel has delivered a fine and a suspension to Ronaldo.
The ban will be active on a domestic level when Ronaldo joins a new club. However, the ban does not apply to the ongoing global event of the World Cup in Qatar. Ronaldo and co. will face Ghana at the FIFA World Cup Qatar, scheduled for Thursday, 24th November at 9:30 PM IST.
