India will host the ICC 2023 Men’s ODI World Cup from October 5 to November 19. The event will include 10 teams in total and 48 matches will be contested at 10 different venues. The ODI World Cup 2023 kicks off at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium with a clash between England, the 2019 champions, and New Zealand, the runners-up. While there is plenty of enthusiasm around the World Cup, fans may be upset that several great names will be missing from the event in India owing to injuries. Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant was involved in a major accident in December last year, which forced him to miss the rest of the season. Rishabh Pant will miss the ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 because of this serious injury. Pant initially held the position of India’s primary wicketkeeper; however, moving forward, KL Rahul will be sharing the responsibilities for wicketkeeping.

Axar Patel, India’s all-rounder, has been ruled out of the 2023 World Cup after failing to heal in time from a left quadriceps injury suffered during the Asia Cup Super-4 match against Bangladesh. It is expected that off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin would fill his place. Axar did not play in the Asia cup final or the three-game ODI series against Australia at home. Ashwin was given a one-day comeback and performed admirably in the first two matches.

Michael Bracewell

The New Zealand all-rounder was seen as an emerging talent and a player to keep an eye on at the ICC Cricket World Cup in India in 2023. However, Bracewell got injured during England’s local T20 event which forced him to withdraw from the tournament. Bracewell injured his right achilles while playing county cricket for Worcestershire in England. Rachin Ravindra was given the opportunity to play in ICC World Cup 2023.

Wanindu Hasaranga, a Sri Lankan spin all-rounder, had a fantastic performance in the Lankan Premier League but also suffered a major setback. Hasaranga has a hamstring injury that may require surgery. He’s also out of the Asia Cup 2023, which was held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Dushmanth Chameera

Along with spin all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga, fast bowler Dushmanth Chameera has been ruled out of the World Cup 2023. Chameera was on the mend, but he’s still not fit for the World Cup. Chameera suffered a pectoral muscle injury while playing in the Lanka Premier League in August.

Naseem Shah


Naseem Shah hurt his shoulder while playing against India in the Super 4 round of the Asia Cup 2023. Hasan Ali has been granted the go-ahead to replace 20-year-old Naseem Shah, who was a key member of Pakistan’s pace attack with Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf.

Anrich Nortje

Anrich Nortje will once again miss out on representing South Africa on cricket’s greatest stage. Anrich Nortje has hurt himself again and has been ruled out of the entire event, which begins on October 5. Having a lower back injury keeps Nortje out of action. Lizard Williams has taken his spot on the team.

Sisanda Magala

The 32-year-old Protean fast bowler is also injured, and he was replaced by Andile Phehlukwayo. Sisanda Magala has an issue with his left knee that will require additional evaluation and therapy. Magala, a right-arm fast bowler, has appeared in eight one-day internationals for South Africa.

Jofra Archer has not competed in a single event since his debut due to an injury. Jofra Archer has had elbow issues since the start of his international career. Archer was hurt yet again while playing for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2023.

Ashton Agar

The left-arm spinner Ashton Agar has been added to the long list of players who will be sidelined from the 2023 World Cup. Due to a calf injury, he has been replaced in Australia’s 15-man squad. The 29-year-old played in an ODI against South Africa earlier this month in Bloemfontein but was not selected for the India visit. Agar has been replaced by veteran batsman Marnus Labuschagne.
