The T20 World Cup triumph in 2007 and the addition of Bollywood helped the Indian Premier League (IPL) expand quickly and establish itself as a major brand in the game.

The first season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was held in 2008, and it marked the start of a journey that has greatly aided Indian cricket. There are a few consistent players in the lineup who played in the inaugural season and will do so again in the next Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2024. MS Dhoni, the great Indian keeper-batter, will lead CSK in the next season. The team’s steadfast skipper will seek a successful championship defence in IPL 2024, which might be his final season with the team. Dhoni’s affiliation with Chennai began during the first IPL auction, where he was purchased for a record 9.50 crore, making him the most expensive purchase of the 2008 season. Dhoni made his IPL debut in 2008 with the Chennai Super Kings and then joined the Rising Pune Super Giants while CSK was defunct for two years. During the 2024 IPL, he will lead CSK one more time.

Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma made his IPL debut for the now-defunct Deccan Chargers. Sharma’s batting heroics in the inaugural season pleased many, with 404 runs from 13 games. Later, Rohit became a member of the Mumbai Indians. He has been a key component of the MI dressing room since the 2011 IPL. The Mumbai Indians have won five IPL titles under Rohit’s leadership. In the 2024 season, Rohit Sharma will not be regarded as MI’s leader.

Virat Kohli

Since Indian Premier League (IPL) 2008, the Bangalore-based club has been led by former captain of the cricket team, Virat Kohli. He is the only player to have played for the same squad for all four seasons in the history of the league. While Bangalore’s trophy cupboard remains barren, Kohli has been the silver lining in their wild ride. With 7263 runs in 237 games, he is the competition’s most prolific run scorer.

Ajinkya Rahane

CSK retained senior Indian batter Ajinkya Rahane for the 2024 edition after his stellar performance for CSK in 2023. Ajinkya Rahane made his IPL debut with the Mumbai Indians in 2008 and thereafter joined the Rajasthan Royals, where he stayed for a long time. He has previously played for KKR and DC in the league.

At the end of the 2008 IPL, Ravindra Jadeja was dubbed the “Rockstar of Indian Cricket.” Jadeja was a member of India’s Under-19 World Cup-winning squad led by Virat Kohli. In addition to Dhoni, the CSK team includes experienced IPL all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. His time in the cash-rich league began in 2008 when he signed a 12-lakh-rupee deal with the Rajasthan Royals (RR). He also played for the Gujarat Lions in 2016 and 2017.

In the 2024 Indian Premier League, left-handed batsman Shikhar Dhawan will lead the Punjab Kings (PBKS). In the first season of the league, the southpaw batted for Delhi and amassed 340 runs in 14 matches. Dhawan made his IPL debut in 2008 while playing for the Delhi Daredevils. The Punjab Kings’ current captain is Shikhar Dhawan. He was once a player for the Delhi Capitals, Deccan Chargers, and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Piyush Chawla

Piyush Chawla, a senior leg spinner, is the other current MI player who participated in the IPL in 2008. In the first tournament, the wily bowler represented Kings XI Punjab (renamed Punjab Kings) and finished with 17 wickets from 15 appearances. A top wicket-taker in the Indian Premier League, Piyush is also listed among the top wicket-takers. Piyush Chawla is presently a member of the Mumbai Indians. During his IPL career, he played for KKR and CSK.

Amit Mishra is a member of LSG’s IPL 2024 squad. The leg-spinner has been a part of the competition since its inception in 2008. He’s made a name for himself in the competition as a reliable competitor. In 2008, he was a member of the Delhi Daredevils squad. With 173 wickets from 161 games, Mishra is the fourth-highest wicket-taker in league history.

Manish Pandey

In the IPL 2024 auction, Indian batter Manish Pandey signed with KKR for a base price of 50 lakh. Wearing purple and gold, he had his best years in the league. Raebareli’s right-arm bowler, Swapnil Singh, was a member of the Mumbai Indians’ IPL 2008 camp but did not play. At the IPL 2024 mini-auction, Bangalore also signed seasoned left-arm spinner Swapnil Singh. The 32-year-old was a member of MI’s squad in 2008 but sat out the entire season.
