Code of conduct breach: Nitish Rana slapped with hefty fine in PBKS clash

KKR claimed a thrilling 5-wicket win over Punjab Kings in the latest IPL 2023 encounter. However, KKR captain Nitish Rana‘s joy was short-lived as he breached the IPL Code of Conduct and received a Rs 12 lakh fine for maintaining slow over-rate during the match against PBKS at the Eden Gardens, as per the official IPL release.

The official IPL statement read,

“Kolkata Knight Riders captain Nitish Rana has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Punjab Kings at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. “As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Rana was fined Rs. 12 lakh,”

Playing at the number three position, KKR’s captain Nitish Rana played a crucial role in the team’s chase of 180 on Monday. He scored an outstanding 51 off just 38 balls, including 6 boundaries and a six, setting the pace for the rest of the chase. Along with Venkatesh Iyer (11), he also shared a significant partnership of over fifty runs, paving the way for Andre Russell and Rinku Singh to secure the victory. Russell played a crucial role as he smacked consecutive sixes in the 19th over. KKR is currently placed in the fifth position on the IPL 2023 points table with 10 points: five wins, and six losses.

PBKS bowler Rahul Chahar grabbed two wickets giving away 23 runs in four overs, while Harpreet Brar and Nathan Ellis got one wicket each. PBKS captain Shikhar Dhawan played a knock of 57 runs off 47 balls.
