Three top-seeded Indians Prajnesh Gunneswaran, Saketh Myneni and Arjun Khade, made their way to the third round of the Chennai Open ATP Challenger on Wednesday.
A progressive day for Indians at Chennai Open 2019
Prajnesh Gunneswaran defeated Daniel Altmaier of Germany 6-4, 6-4. He broke serve in the ninth game and captured the opening set. In the second set, he broke Altmaier in the very first game which proved to be decisive. He was outstanding throughout the game and played with a great degree of comfort to close out the set 6-4, and with it, the match.
Eleventh seed Saketh Myneni then beat Chennai-based N Vijay Sundar Prashanth 6-4, 6-3 to advance to the next round.
Arjun Kadhe caused an upset win over thirteenth seed Jose Hernandez-Fernandes of the Dominican Republic in two easy sets 6-3, 6-2.
Second seed Corentin Moutet of France beat Australia’s Luke Saville in a match that stretched for over two and a half hours.
Seventh seed James Duckworth of Australia defeated Ivan Gakhov of Russia 7-6(2), 7-5. Brydan Klein of Great Britain caused an upset to twelfth seed Maverick Banes of Australia in straight sets.
In the next round, all eyes will be on ace tennis player Gunneswaran, who will take on fellow Indian Arjun Kadhe.
Saketh Myneni will be up against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina of Spain and Sasikumar Mukund will take on third seed Mohamed Safwat of Egypt.
