Indian badminton players PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen secure semifinal berths at the 2023 Canada Open. In an impressive display, Sindhu emerged victorious in straight games against China’s Gao Fangjie, while Lakshya Sen triumphed over Julie Carraggi in the quarterfinals on July 7th, 2023. Despite facing defeat in their previous three encounters with Gao Fang Jie, Sindhu emerged victorious this time, securing her place in the semifinals.

Sindhu asserted her dominance over Fang Jie as she secured her first victory in four encounters. With an impressive scoreline of 21-13, 21-7, Sindhu dominated the women’s singles quarterfinals late on Friday night.

Meanwhile, Lakshya Sen faced a spirited challenge from German qualifier Julien Carraggi in the men’s singles quarterfinal. However, Sen showcased his skills and determination, ultimately prevailing with a 21-8, 17-21, 21-10 victory.

Moving forward, Sindhu will face Japan’s Yamaguchi, the current world number one, while Sen is set to compete against Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto, the fourth seed.

Sindhu holds a favorable 14-10 head-to-head record against the top-seeded Japanese player. However, in their last encounter at the Singapore Open earlier this year, Yamaguchi emerged victorious. On the other hand, Sen has a 1-1 record against Nishimoto, with their most recent match taking place at the 2022 Japan Open.
