Indian badminton pairs comprising Satwik Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, as well as Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, progressed to the pre-quarterfinals of the BWF World Championships 2023 on Wednesday. In the women’s doubles category, Treesa and Gayatri exhibited an impressive performance as they secured victory against Chang Ching Hui and Yang Ching Tun from Chinese Taipei, triumphing in straight sets with scores of 21-18, 21-10.
Demonstrating their prowess, the pair of Treesa and Gayatri, ranked 19th in the world, completed the match in a duration of 38 minutes. In the upcoming round, the Indian duo is set to take on the top-seeded pair, Chen Qing Chen and Jia Yi Fan.
Treesa and Gayatri, the recipients of a Commonwealth Games bronze, initially faced a 2-5 deficit. However, they swiftly adopted a strategy of strategic strike rotation and prolonging the rallies. This approach lured mistakes from their adversaries, leading to a reversal in their favor as they reached a score of 8-6. By the mid-game break, the Indian pair had managed to take the lead at 11-9.
In the second match held on that day, the pair ranked second in the world, consisting of Satwik Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, competed against the Australian team composed of Kenneth Zhe Hooi Choo and Ming Chuen Lim.
Satwik and Chirag encountered minimal resistance as they swiftly surged to a 7-3 advantage. Approaching the break, they maintained a substantial four-point lead. The contest was notably devoid of extended rallies, with the Indian pair showcasing their superiority over their opponents.
