Newly elected BCCI President Sourav Ganguly recently expressed a proposal to put a contract system in place for first class-cricketers. This move will see thousands of players have a secure future in domestic cricket. The BCCI president wants to replicate the contract structure system that is followed for annual salary payments of the players representing India on an international level.
Indian cricket moving in the right direction
Cricketing legends Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid will be meeting on Wednesday in Bengaluru to discuss the future of the National Cricket Academy. Ganguly became the BCCI president in October while Rahul Dravid took over as the Chief of the National Cricket Academy in July.
The meeting will also be attended by all the recently elected BCCI officers and the COO of NCA, Tufan Ghosh.
The National Cricket Academy recognizes and nurtures future talent that has the potential to represent the country. However, recently it has become like a rehabilitation center for injured star cricketers, an issue that Sourav Ganguly addressed after taking over as the president.
Ganguly would be expected to give inputs to an already outlined blueprint by Rahul Dravid regarding the future of the National Cricket Academy. The duo has worked together previously on a few technical committee meetings. Having an understanding outside the cricket field, they are both expected to turn things around for the NCA and restore its former glory of producing talented cricketers rather than just being known as a rehabilitation centre.
“If you ask me one thing, it would be how Sourav can revive the NCA. The greatness of this Indian team is their bench strength” said VVS Laxman last week.
Ganguly also recently had progressive conversations with Indian captain Virat Kohli to discuss the future of Indian cricket and how the team can become World no.1 in all formats.
The Indian test team is currently dominating the table of the on-going World Test Championships gathering a total of 240 points.
