The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) finally unveils most awaited IPL 2024 start date considering general elections. Arun Dhumal, the chairman of the tournament’s governing council, mentioned that the schedule might be revealed in two parts – initially for the first two weeks, with the remaining schedule to be determined once the dates for the general elections are confirmed.

“As of now, we plan to start the tournament in Chennai on March 22,” Dhumal told this publication. “We are keeping a tab on the situation and since the dates for the general elections are announced, we can plan the later half of the tournament accordingly…”

Chennai Super Kings, as the defending champion, is set to commence their campaign at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium. While there have been speculations about the possibility of holding the tournament overseas due to the general elections, credible sources within the Board have assured that efforts are underway to ensure the entire IPL 2024 is hosted in India. Informally, some franchise sources have been apprised by the Board about the fixtures being disclosed in stages, with contingency plans also in place. Considering the limited time remaining, several franchises have opted to initiate their preparatory camps later this week. Following the conclusion of India’s Test series against England on March 11, players involved in the series will enjoy a slightly over a week-long break before the commencement of the IPL 2024. In order to streamline logistical operations, the BCCI had previously chosen Bengaluru and Delhi as the exclusive venues for the second edition of the Women’s Premier League. The tournament, commencing in Bengaluru on Friday, will conclude in Delhi on March 17, providing a five-day window for the Board and the host broadcaster to organize and coordinate necessary arrangements.
