The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will announce India Cricket‘s 15-member squad for the upcoming 2019 ICC World Cup on April 15 in Mumbai.
The date was decided during a meeting between the Committee of Administrators (CoA) and the office bearers on Monday.
According to reports, the board officials confirmed that there will be a meeting of the five-member selection committee at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai to select the players for the tournament. The tournament begins in England from May 30.
MSK Prasad, the chairman of selection committee declared that they will name the team before April 20.
As per tournament’s rules, each team is required to announce their final squad on or before April 23. However, if any changes are to be made to the final squad of 15, the teams can make it seven days prior to the tournament, only then the ICC’s Event Technical Committee will approve such changes.
A BCCI official told PTI on Monday about the discussions that are going on accounts settlements over all the last bilateral series between India and Australia. The BCCI will be getting Rs 2.09 crore from Cricket Australia after reconciliation of accounts for the past 10 years.
Back then, the teams declared their 30 member list two months prior to the tournament. In 2016, after the new Members Playing Agreement which came into the role, the teams no longer need to follow this rule.
MSK Prasad said that he is confident about their announcement and is sure that they will declare a good team. He further added that they worked on this for almost one and a half years and observed all the players. Therefore, they are very clear about what their selection will be.
Currently, the country is gripped with the IPL fever with CSK leading the league table with 10 points. KKR are close on the heels with 8 points.
