As India plays South Africa in the ongoing tour, it seems they might have to return to S.A for the Indian Premier League too. Increasing Covid cases have forced BCCI to make a plan B for the 2022 IPL.
The 15th season of the tournament might held in South Africa in case of Covid cases not dipping by April. South Africa had earlier hosted the 2009 edition of the IPL.
BCCI is also looking at Sri Lanka as a possible option for IPL as a Plan B. Usually, UAE would be a natural Plan B for IPL. But this time around the BCCI has decided to look for other options.
South Africa As Plan B
Over the years, the players have complained about the lack of rest due to late-night IPL matches. However, if the IPL is held in South Africa, and the BCCI sticks to its 7:30 pm IST time, the match will begin at 4 pm in South Africa.
Another advantage would be that Indian players have reported that South Africa has handled the Bio-bubble situation better than other countries.
While maintaining proper covid precautions, South Africa seems to have also provided the players with enough facility to train and even explore.
