Badminton Asia Team Championship: India Women Beat Hong Kong to achieve place in Semis, Confirm Maiden Medal

On Friday, at the Badminton Asia Team Championship (BATC) in Shah Alam, the India women’s team beat Hong Kong by a 3-0 victory in the quarterfinals. Entering the match as favorites, India’s triumph not only advanced them to the semifinals but also guaranteed the country its first-ever medal in this Badminton competition, at least a bronze.

The opening singles match witnessed PV Sindhu overcoming Hong Kong’s top-ranked singles player, the 77th-ranked Lo Sin Yan, with a scoreline of 21-7, 16-21, 21-12. Simultaneously, the doubles duo of Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa outplayed the 18th-ranked pair of Yeung Nga Ting and Yeung Pui Lam, securing a victory of 21-10, 21-14. The tie was sealed in India’s favor during the second singles clash, where Ashmita Chaliha defeated the 121st-ranked Yeung Sum Yee with a score of 21-12, 21-13.
