India Shines at Asian Youth Athletics Championships: Wins 4 Medals on Day 1 in Tashkent

India got off to a flying start on the opening day of the Asian Youth Athletics Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, as they clinched four medals on Day 1. In the morning session, Aarti set the ball rolling for India as she bagged a bronze medal in the girls’ 5km race walk event.

In the evening session, the Indian athletes shine with gold and silver medal in the 1500m track race event. India also bagged a bronze in the girl’s long jump event.

India’s Rahul and Priyanshu showed supremacy in the 1500m race event. Priyanshu bagged the gold medal in men’s 1500m as he clocked 3:57.37 to finish ahead of compatriot Rahul Sarnaliya, who bagged the silver medal in the same event with a timing of 3:59.43. Rahul stated after winning a silver in the 1500m,

”I tried hard to catch up to Priyanshu but he was better on the given day and won gold,”

In the girl’s 1500m, Sejalbel Katara lost the race for the bronze medal and finished fourth. Mubassina Mohammed from Lakshadweep recorded a jump of 5.90m to swell India’s medal tally to four.

Chinese athletes dominated the girls’ 5km race. Yang Xizhen won the gold medal with a timing of 22 minutes 32.61 seconds. Whereas, Aarti won the bronze with a timing of 24 minutes 29.14 seconds.
