India’s young athletic talents made an impressive start at the 2023 Asian Under 20 (U-20) Athletics Championships in Yecheon, South Korea, securing three medals, including two gold and one bronze, showcasing their prowess on the international stage.
The day began on a high note as Rezoana Mallick Heena, a rising star, clinched the gold medal in the women’s 400-meter race. Displaying her exceptional speed and stamina, Henna clocked an impressive time of 53.31 seconds. Heena earned her a well-deserved spot on the top of the podium. This victory adds to her remarkable achievement earlier this year as the U18 Asian Athletics Championships titleholder, making her the reigning Asian champion in both the U18 and U20 categories.
Joining the gold medal tally, Bharatpreet Singh showcased his strength and technique in the men’s discus throw event. With a remarkable distance of 55.66 meters in his third attempt, Singh secured the gold medal and was crowned the men’s U20 Asian Champion in discus throw.
Antima Pal added to India’s medal haul by capturing a bronze medal in the women’s 5,000-meter race. Pal displayed exceptional endurance, crossing the finish line with a time of 17 minutes and 17.11 seconds.
