The shooter, who had won a silver at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games, shot 227.8 in the final to garner a third podium finish, adding to India’s quota for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

India’s joy was doubled when Manu Bhaker shot 244.3 to bag the top spot in the 10m air pistol event. However, the 17-year-old already has an Olympic quota to her name, a feat that she attained at the Munich World Cup in May. Chinese shooters Qian wang and Ranxin Jiang won the silver and bronze respectively.

It was, however, a disappointing day for other Indian competing on the day. Yashaswini Singh Deshwal ended at the sixth spot in the finals.

Annu Raj Singh, the third Indian in action, could manage only a 20th place finish with a 569 shot.

Nonetheless, the Indian trio staked a claim on the team bronze with an overall total of 1731. Korea came first followed by China.

Deepak qualified for the finals in third place after registering a score sequence of 103.1 104.8 104.6 105.0 105.6 103.7 at the Lusail Shooting Complex, This gave the 32-year-old an aggregate of 626.8.

Although he started the final with a shot of 8.9, the Indian shooter barged back in the contest with nine straight scores of 10, rising to the third place after the first stage of the competition.

He sustained his momentum in the later parts of the contest as well, ultimately winning an Olympic quota. The rifleman will be the second Indian in the men’s 10m air rifle event, the other being Divyansh Singh Panwar. Kumar had earlier won a bronze at the ISSF World Cup in Guadalajara last year.
