Asian Olympic Qualifiers: India clinched Gold in Men’s 10m Air Pistol Team Event

Shooters from India achieved a gold medal in the men’s 10m air pistol team event, marking a promising beginning to their journey at the Asian Olympic Qualifiers on Monday. The Indian trio, consisting of Varun Tomar (586), Arjun Singh Cheema (579), and Ujjawal Malik (575), amassed a total score of 1740 to secure the top position.

Iran and Korea clinched the silver and bronze medals, respectively. Varun and Arjun have also successfully advanced to the individual finals. The Asian Olympic Qualifiers offer a total of 16 quota places for the Paris Olympics, with the 10m air pistol events for both men and women presenting four quotas, of which a maximum of three can be claimed by Indian shooters.

In the women’s 10m air pistol category, Esha Singh, Rhythm Sangwan, and Surbhi Rao carry the aspirations of the Indian contingent. India is yet to secure a Paris quota in this particular event. The Senayan Shooting Range in Jakarta will be the battleground for 385 athletes from 26 countries, vying for a total of 256 medals (84 gold, 84 silver, and 88 bronze), in addition to the coveted Paris quotas.
