The Indian men’s kabaddi team demonstrated their dominance by securing a resounding 62-17 win against Japan at the Asian Kabaddi Championship 2023 in Busan, Republic of Korea on Wednesday.
Aslam Inamdar, who had an impressive debut against Korea the previous day, continued to shine. He secured his second super 10 of the tournament. Notably, Sachin Tanwar also made a significant contribution, accumulating 10 raid points.
Both India and Japan entered the contest with two victories each. However, the Indian team proved to be unstoppable. Despite Japan’s commanding 85-11 win over Hong Kong and a 45-18 win against Korea earlier in the day, they struggled to find answers against the formidable Indian kabaddi team.
India demonstrated their dominance by inflicting six all-outs on Japan, three in each half. The defending champions swiftly secured their first all-out within the fourth minute and swiftly raced to an 18-0 lead before Japan managed to open their account in the eighth minute. The first half concluded with a score of 32-6 in favor of India. Captain Pawan Sehrawat emerged as India’s top raider in the first half, amassing six points.
Despite a better performance and quick scores in the second half, India emerged victorious with an impressive 45-point margin.
In earlier matches of the tournament, India exhibited their dominance by overpowering Korea 76-13, followed by a convincing 53-19 win against Chinese Taipei on Tuesday. The Indian kabaddi team is now eagerly preparing to face Iran in a highly anticipated match scheduled for Thursday. Notably, Iran has also maintained an unbeaten record in the tournament thus far.
Six teams, including India, Iran, Japan, Korea, Chinese Taipei, and Hong Kong, are participating in the Asian Championships. India will face Iran next on Thursday. Following the single-legged round-robin league, the top two teams will advance to the final showdown on Friday.
