Asian Indoor Championships: India’s Gulveer Singh Took Home 3000m Gold

Gulveer Singh secured India’s fourth gold medal at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships by clinching victory in the 3000m final on the competition’s last day. Gulveer completed the race in 8 minutes and 07.48 seconds, earning the top spot on the podium in this non-Olympic athletics event. The silver and bronze medals were claimed by Keneshbekov Nursultan (8:08.85) of Kyrgyzstan and Jalil Naseri (8:09.39) of Iran, respectively. Earlier in the same day, Ankita secured a silver medal in the women’s 3000m race with a time of 9:26.22.

On the first day of the competition, shot putter Tajinderpal Singh Toor, 100m hurdler Jyothi Yarraji, and Harmilan Bains (1500m) had each won a gold medal. Notably, Toor and Yarraji set new national records in their respective events. Regarding Gulveer’s background, he originates from Sirsa in Atrauli Tehsil, Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. He gained recognition by achieving victory in the 10,000-meter race at the Federation Cup Athletics Championships held in Ranchi.

India concluded the tournament with four gold medals and one silver medal. In the previous edition held in Astana, Kazakhstan, the nation secured one gold, six silver, and one bronze. Gulveer Singh achieved India’s fourth gold medal at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships by emerging victorious in the 3000m final.
