Aman Sehrawat (U23 World Champion) and Deepak Punia (World Championships silver medalist) won the wrestling trials at the Indira Gandhi Arena in New Delhi, securing their spots in the forthcoming Asian Games.
Atish Todkar shocked everyone by defeating Olympic silver medalist Ravi Dahiya in the 57 kg division to open the competition. Later, Atish was defeated by Rohit in the semifinals.
Aman Sehrawat got things underway by defeating Rahul Aware in a challenging match, and he then defeated Ankit and Shubham by virtue of technical dominance. Aman relied on his technique to defeat Rahul in the championship match, earning a spot in a very competitive division for the Asian Games.
Sujeet Kalkal, the national champion in the 65 kg division, was defeated by Rohit in the quarterfinals, causing even another shock. On Sunday, the Delhi High Court rejected Sujeet’s plea challenging Bajrang Punia‘s direct entrance for the Asian Games.
Despite having a swollen right eye, Vishal Kaliraman won the category competition. Deepak Punia (Olympian and World Championship silver winner) outlasted Jointy Kumar in the championship match and prevailed 4-3.
Sumit Malik secured his spot on the Indian squad in the 125 kg division, while Vicky (97 kg) and Yash (74 kg) won their respective divisions.
