The upcoming Asian Games scheduled to be held in Hangzhou, Cricket will be one of the major attractions. The sport will be seen making a comeback to the Asian Games itinerary after a period of nine years. Cricket was first introduced at the Asian Games in 2010 and has been played in the men’s and women’s categories at the last two editions at Guangzhou and Incheon respectively. The game will be played in the T20 format in the Games.

At the inaugural event held in Guangzhou, Bangladesh emerged as the gold medal winners. Whereas in the following edition held in 2014, Sri Lanka emerged as the champions. Meanwhile, in the women’s division, Pakistan emerged as the winner in both the editions.

It is worth mentioning that for the upcoming 19th edition of the Asian Games, which is scheduled to be held from September 23 to October 8, cricket matches have been accorded international status by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the first time ever. Moreover, both men’s and women’s cricket will be played in the T20 International (T20I) format.
