Asian Games Champ Jinson Johnson in Top Form- Clocks Season’s Best on Road to Hangzhou

Jinson Johnson, the reigning Asian Games champion, showcased his top form by achieving his season’s best time in the 1500m race during the Indian Grand Prix 5. Meanwhile, in the javelin throw event, Kishore Kumar Jena secured the top position with ease. Johnson, who is 32 years old and preparing to defend his Asian Games gold in Hangzhou, clocked an impressive time of 3 minutes and 39.32 seconds to claim victory in the 1500m race. This outstanding performance took place at the newly constructed eight-lane 400m track located at Sector 7 Sports Complex.

Johnson and Ajay Kumar Saroj, both did not participate in the IGP, have been chosen to represent India in the upcoming Hangzhou Asian Games, set to commence on September 23. The athletics events are scheduled to kick off on September 29. Johnson achieved a remarkable personal best time of 3:35.24s, establishing a national record back in 2019 in Berlin. Reflecting on his performance, the 2016 Rio Olympian expressed his delight at having rediscovered his previous form.

“The track was fast. The weather was good. I didn’t let the opportunity slip from my hand. I pushed hard in the last lap to dip below 3:40 seconds.”
