The Asian Games, also referred to as Asiad, occur every four years and bring together athletes from across Asia for a diverse multi-sport competition. The 2023 Asian Games will be held in Hangzhou, People’s Republic of China, from September 23 to October 8, 2023. It will be a grand sporting event, featuring a diverse array of 40 sports and 61 disciplines. In India, the game of Bridge boasts a substantial following, with participants spanning various age groups. It’s popular for both casual and competitive play among friends and family. Bridge tournaments are held in India, ranging from local to national and international contests. These events allow gamers to demonstrate their abilities and compete at various levels. The Bridge Federation of India (BFI) is India’s national governing organization for bridge. It promotes the game, hosts tournaments, and represents Indian Bridge on a global scale. The World Bridge Federation (WBF) and the Asian Bridge Federation (ABF) are both members of the BFI.

The national team for the forthcoming 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China was unveiled by the Indian Bridge Federation.

The squad was selected following try-outs that were held from March 2 to March 18 at Greater Noida’s Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence. Three types of squads were selected at the Asian Games in Hangzhou: open teams, mixed teams, and women’s teams.

From August 20 to September 2 in Morocco, this complete group and a senior team will compete in the World Bridge team Championships on behalf of India. Last year’s postponed Asian Games will now take place from September 23 to October 8. In Jakarta, at the 2018 Asian Games, where bridge was first introduced, India won a gold medal (men’s pair) and two bronze medals (men’s team and mixed team).

Sumit Mukherjee, Jaggy Shivdasani, and Rajeswar Tiwari, who were all members of the men’s team that won bronze in Jakarta in 2018, will also compete at the 2023 Asian Games. Bridge is a two-player team game. A bridge session is made up of multiple deals (also known as hands or boards).
