Asian Games 2023: Arjun Singh & Sunil Singh Salam Seal Bronze in Canoe Sprint 1000m

On an impressive start to Day 10 of the Asian Games, Arjun Singh and Sunil Singh Salam of India secured a bronze medal in the men’s canoe double 1000m final. This landmark victory marked India’s inaugural Canoe Sprint medal at the Asian Games and the first medal in the sport since the 1994 Asian Games.

The exceptional Indian duo finished at the third position on the podium with a time of 3:53.329 in the final. The pair from Uzbekistan, Shokhmurod Kholmuradov and Nurislam Ugli, clinched the top spot, crossing the finish line 9.533 seconds ahead of the Indian duo.

In the 1994 edition of the Hiroshima Asian Games, India secured a bronze medal in the event, with Siji Kumar Sadanandan and Johnny Rommel making their mark in the annals of history

The experienced paddler Sunil has participated in C-2 1000m and C-1 2000m at the World Championships in 2019 and 2023 and World Cups. While the 16-year-old Arjun Singh has been a part of World Championship in Germany earlier this year where he finished 9th in C-2 1000m.

Sunil Singh Salam’s and Arjun Singh’s achievements adds to the India’s tally of medals. As the game progresses, the Indian contingent continues to strive for the excellence. The duo has showcased their talent at the international stage and has displayed the competitive spirit as well.
