Asian Champions Trophy Kickoff: India to face China | Eyeing Pakistan Clash on Aug 9

The Indian men’s hockey team is set to commence their Asian Champions Trophy journey against China, marking the tournament’s opening day. Scheduled to take place from August 3 to 12, the tournament will be hosted in Chennai, India.

The opening day of the Asian Champions Trophy will witness India and China facing off in a thrilling match at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium, Chennai.

Following the match against China, India’s next challenge will be against Japan on August 4. The host team will then confront Malaysia on August 6, followed by a game against Korea on a subsequent day, as outlined in the schedule announced by the Asian Hockey Federation on Tuesday.

On August 9, India will face their arch-rivals Pakistan in the ultimate league-stage encounter.

The highly anticipated six-team tournament will witness fierce competition among South Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, Japan, China, and India, as they vie for the ultimate glory.

All teams will be pooled together, and the rankings on the points table will be determined through a league system.

Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey stated,

“We are absolutely delighted to be hosting the Hero Asian Champions Trophy Chennai 2023 and announcing the schedule is a landmark day, as it sets the ball rolling for the tournament,”
