Jyothi Yarraji won the women’s 100-meter hurdles race on Thursday at the 2023 Asian Athletics Championships, giving India its first gold medal of the competition.
At the Supachalasai Stadium, Yarraji finished first in the final race with a time of 13.09 seconds, beating out Japanese competitors Terada Asuka (13.13s) and Aoki Masumi (13.26s).
Another gold medal was was on its way for India in the men’s 1500m final. Ajay Kumar Saroj beat more accomplished competitors from Qatar, China, Japan, and even Jinson Johnson of India to win gold with a time of 3:41.51.
India’s third gold medal of the day was won by Abdulla Aboobacker in the Men’s Triple Jump with a leap of 16.92 meters. Aboobacker measured his jump at 16.92 meters.
The ongoing Asian Athletics Championships 2023 is taking place at Bangkok’s Suphachalasai National Stadium in Thailand.
