The much-awaited Asia Cup 2023 games between India and Pakistan will be conducted at a neutral venue as planned and Sri Lanka will host the game. The Indian squad lead by Rohit Sharma will not go to Pakistan, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal revealed on Wednesday.
Dhumal traveled to Durban for the ICC Chief Executives Meeting (CEC). He stated that BCCI secretary Jay Shah and PCB representative head Zaka Ashraf gathered to finalize the programme prior of the ICC Board meeting on Thursday.
“Our secretary met PCB head Zaka Ashraf and the Asia Cup schedule was finalised. And it is on course as it was discussed earlier. There will be four games of league stage in Pakistan, followed by 9 games in Sri Lanka including both India versus Pakistan game and in case a third game if both teams play final.”
He denied media rumors of India visiting the neighboring nation, as claimed by Pakistan’s sports minister Ehsan Mazari in some circles.
“There was no such discussion held. Neither India is travelling to Pakistan nor our secretary will be travelling contrary to reports that have surfaced. Only the schedule was finalised.”
Like the 2010 edition, India will most likely play Pakistan at Sri Lanka’s Dambulla. The sole home game for Pakistan will be against the underdog Nepal. The other three Asia Cup matches are between Afghanistan and Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, and Afghanistan and Sri Lanka.
