The 24-year old Pune’s Arjun Kadhe has been awarded the third wildcard entry into the singles main draw of the Tata Open Maharashtra, the only ATP World Tour event India hosts. Kadhe had beaten India No. 2 Ramkumar in the $ 50,000 KPIT-MSLTA Challenger recently. He was also the runners-up at the National Championship.

India’s top-two ranked players in the ATP list, Prajnesh Gunneswaran and Ramkumar Ramanathan are the other wildcard recipients for the tournament, to be played at the Mhalunge Balewadi Stadium, Pune from Dec. 31 to Jan. 5.

Tournament Director Prashant Sutar said, “Kadhe has exhibited a lot of promise and Pune being his home side should certainly be an additional advantage and motivation for him to do well here. We wish all wild-card entrants the best of luck.”

The ATP 250 event begins from December 31 at the Balewadi Sports Complex in Pune. No. 6 Kevin Anderson, world no 7 Marin Cilic and defending champion Gilles Simon (30) headline the singles field.

The world No 25 Hyeon Chung from Korea and World No 45 Malek Jaziri from Tunisia will also play the season opener.

Last year’s finalists, World No. 30 Gilles Simon (France) and World No. 6 Kevin Anderson (South Africa) have also entered the tournament.
