These words by Dr. Sanjay Kapoor, President of AICF (All India Chess Federation) in a press conference gave a light of hope to all the chess players, enthusiasts, and experts of the country on Tuesday.

Just like every other sport in the country and learning from the massive success of IPL, PKL, and ISL, the All India Chess Federation is also going to launch the very first season of the Indian Chess League from June 2022. This league will be a 6 team event where every team will have 8 players.
The Indian chess league will also feature two super GMs, two women GMs, two Indian GMs, one Indian junior girl, and one Indian junior boy per franchise.
This is going to be a 2-week league where it will be played in a double round-robin format. The top two teams will face each other in the finals. The winning team will get a sum of Rs. 2 crores, the federation notified in its press conference.
However, the criteria to become a franchise owner has not been announced yet but the general secretary of AICF has said that they have started receiving good responses from the corporate houses of the country.
The giant online gaming platform MPL has been already boarded as the main sponsor of the league. This is going to much power and limelight to this league.
The Gameplan Sports private limited has been authorized to organize this tournament.
