Future in Safe Hands
Former India legend VVS Laxman began his stint as the new head of the National Cricket Academy last year. After joining, Laxman took to social media to share photos from his first day in office.
He is a former Indian international cricketer and a former cricket commentator and pundit. Laxman had played as a middle-order batsman in Test cricket.
VVS Laxman has replaced his former India team fellow Rahul Dravid, who left this job at NCA to join the senior national men’s cricket team as its head coach. Rahul Dravid replaced Ravi Shastri as Shastri’s tenure as head coach ended after the T20 World Cup.
How to Get Selected in NCA?
The first place to start with the game should be your school or community center. If you are playing with friends, you may voluntarily host cricket games of your own. Getting admission to National Cricket Academy is no easy task.
It’s a dream for many to join National Cricket Academy. Also, the academy hosts cricketers from around the country. The competition here is extremely hard. Some senior players use the NCA to recover from their bad patches or injuries to regain their form.
At NCA, player selection happens strictly based on performances at the junior and senior domestic circuits. Thus, one cannot find a seat unless the junior selectors of your zone pick you up for their zonal academy.
The zonal academy trainees compete in various tournaments. Based on the performance, the National junior selectors choose the best performers from the tournament for the U-19 camp. The National Senior selection committee chooses the trainees for India A. Keep one thing in mind, your admission depends on your performance and the selectors’ decision.
As we said earlier, one should start early. Play with your school team, inter-collegiate team, or semi-professional team. National Cricket Academy selectors have an eye on these regional tournaments. Selection is tough though!
Why National Cricket Academy/NCA?
Once you join the NCA, the expert coaches and even ex-cricketers will buff up your skills. If your game does the talk, you can even get a chance to play for the state teams. If you are part of a state team, you can play many major domestic tournaments in the country.
Therefore, depending on your talent, your hard work and determination will give you a chance to don a national jersey. Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Mohammad Kaif, Parthiv Patel, and Murali Kartik are some of the international cricketers who embarked on their journeys through NCA.
