AIFF Awards: Lallianzuala Chhangte emerges as the AIFF Men’s Footballer of the Year for the 2022-23 season, while Manisha Kalyan secured the AIFF Women’s Footballer of the Year for the same period.
Originating from Mizoram, the 26-year-old becomes the second player from the state to claim the esteemed men’s award, following Jeje Lalpekhlua‘s triumph in 2016. Chhangte’s exceptional displays throughout the year distinguished him from Nandhakumar Sekar and Naorem Mahesh Singh.
With 12 international appearances for India, the talented winger contributed two goals and one assist during the period, further solidifying his remarkable achievements.

Chhangte emerges as a vital asset for Mumbai City FC in their victorious League Winners’ Shield campaign. With an impressive record of 10 goals and six assists in all 22 Indian Super League (ISL) matches last season, he displayed his skills in the Durand Cup as well, scoring seven goals and providing three assists in seven appearances.
Meanwhile, at just 21 years old, Manisha surpasses Dalima Chhibber and Ngangbam Sweety Devi to secure the esteemed award by AIFF. This accolade marks her second consecutive triumph, complementing her previous recognition as the AIFF Women’s Emerging Footballer of the Year in 2020-21. Akash Mishra has been honored as the AIFF Men’s Emerging Player of the Year for the 2022-23 season. In another remarkable achievement, 16-year-old forward Shilji Shaji has secured the title of AIFF Women’s Emerging Player of the Year for the 2022-23 season. Currently a member of the Indian U-17 side, Shaji showcased her scoring prowess in the 2023 SAFF U-17 Women’s Championship, finishing as the tournament’s top scorer with eight goals in four games.
